Kiwis at the World Games
Earlier this month, I had the privilege of volunteering at the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China. What made this experience especially meaningful was being part of a team that included three Kiwi chiropractors – Gert, Hayley, and myself. The three of us had attended the FICS Hands-On Seminar in New Zealand in 2022. It’s crazy to think we would meet again on the other side of the world, this time in such a unique environment, and be able to share the experience of contributing to this sporting event.
On a personal level, the trip was memorable for a few other reasons too. It gave me the chance to keep up my Mandarin language skills, something I don’t often get to use at home in New Zealand but which became so valuable in connecting with people day to day. After the Games finished, I was also able to spend some time visiting my family in another city – ShenZhen, China. Having that family connection made the whole journey even more special.
Looking back, the World Games was more than just an opportunity to grow as a chiropractor – it was also about connection: reconnecting with colleagues, strengthening cultural ties, and treasuring family (and FICS family) moments. It’s an experience I’ll carry with me for a long time.
A huge thank you to FICS for making this all possible.
