My unforgettable 2 weeks at The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China.

感谢成都的热情招待,Thank you Chengdu for your kind hospitality.

With excitement and anticipation, I set off for the World Games 2025, knowing this would be a trip of a lifetime. This was my first FICS event and also the biggest international sporting experience I had been part of. I was eager to learn, observe, and immerse myself in the atmosphere of a world-class event.

The moment I arrived, Chengdu welcomed us with warmth, not only in its summer heat but also in the friendliness of its volunteers. Their smiles, helpfulness, and enthusiasm created an inviting environment from the very start. Many took the opportunity to practice their English or simply engage in conversation, which made the city feel instantly approachable and lively.

Our FICS team gathered on the first evening. The room was filled with sports chiropractors from across the world, some reconnecting after past Games and others meeting for the first time. The energy was infectious, with introductions, laughter, and stories shared freely. I felt proud to be part of such a passionate and skilled group working together to support athletes and the sporting community.

Reflections: Looking back, the World Games in Chengdu was far more than a professional experience. It offered the chance to learn from world-class sports chiropractors, observe extraordinary athletes, and witness the dedication required to run a seamless international event. Beyond the sports, the friendships and mentorships formed with colleagues during the Games were the most meaningful part. Sharing laughter, stories, and support with people from around the world made this experience unforgettable.

I leave Chengdu grateful for the lessons learned, inspired by the athletes, and enriched by the new friendships I made, connections that I know will last a lifetime. For that, I want to thank all the docs for their time, patience and initiative to share their expertise with me, it has been a pleasure working with all of you and I would love to work with all of you again.

Some of my Event Highlights:

Beach Handball: Beach handball set the tone for the Games. The fast pace and constant movement on sand under the hot sun created a vibrant and dynamic atmosphere. Watching athletes dive, sprint, and coordinate with teammates demonstrated their athleticism and determination, and the energy of the venue was contagious. I got to spend some time with Dr Thomas Halyk, which was the highlight of this day. From being student and teacher to now colleagues at such a big event, it was a dream come true.

Floorball: Floorball brought a different kind of intensity. The speed, agility, and physicality of the players were remarkable. Observing the seamless teamwork and coordination required for success highlighted the mental and physical demands of the sport. The venue buzzed with energy, and the collaboration between officials and volunteers was impressive.

Fistball: Fistball was a completely new experience. The game demanded explosive movements and sharp reflexes, and the athletes displayed remarkable precision and resilience. The concentration on the field and the dedication of the players made every rally exciting to watch.

Karate: Karate was especially memorable. Having trained in the sport myself, it was fascinating to observe elite-level technique and discipline in action. Each bout highlighted the strategy, intensity, and focus required to compete at this level. The atmosphere was tense yet inspiring, leaving a lasting impression.

Squash: Squash showcased relentless agility and endurance. Watching athletes move rapidly across the court with precision and speed emphasized the intensity of the sport. The competitive environment was complemented by a sense of camaraderie among players and officials, making it enjoyable to observe.

Racquetball: Racquetball offered a slightly different rhythm but was equally compelling. Long rallies and fast-paced exchanges highlighted the athletes’ resilience and quick decision-making. Observing the interactions between players, coaches, and officials underscored the teamwork and coordination required behind the scenes.

Canoe Polo: Canoe Polo was an exhilarating addition. Athletes displayed incredible coordination and teamwork while maneuvering their kayaks and handling the ball. The fluidity of movement and strategic plays made the games exciting to watch, and the energy of the players and crowd made the venue especially dynamic.

Boules: Boules provided a welcome change of pace. The slower, methodical nature of the sport emphasized precision and focus. Watching the strategic decisions and concentration of the athletes was captivating. The volunteers were curious and engaged, and it was enjoyable to see a different sporting culture in action.

Sport Climbing: Sport climbing was one of the most thrilling venues. The athletes were strong, precise, and explosive. Observing their technique, strategy, and determination as they navigated challenging walls was inspiring. The intensity of the competition and the dedication of coaches and support staff created an electric atmosphere. One of our docs from China treated an Indonesian athlete and she went on the get bronze, it was truly a heartfelt moment. One that would continue to inspire me to continue contributing to the sporting world.

Duathlon: Duathlon tested athletes’s endurance across cycling, and running. Witnessing athletes push themselves through multiple disciplines in extreme conditions was awe-inspiring. The seamless coordination of volunteers and staff ensured smooth transitions, and the mutual respect among participants and teams created a remarkable atmosphere.

Beach Korfball: Beach korfball was lively and highly engaging. Teams moved constantly on sand, executing strategies while adapting to the dynamic play. The collaboration between athletes, officials, and volunteers created a strong sense of community and excitement that was fun to witness. Even if it rained, our team were lively, in the sense of doing our best to provide care.

Powerlifting: Powerlifting concluded the Games with a display of immense strength and focus. The athletes’ determination and mental preparation for each lift was inspiring. Observing their precision, perseverance, and the supportive environment among competitors and coaches was a perfect way to end the series of events.
