WHY ATTEND?

Practical education that moves with your career.

The practicum is more than a certification requirement. It is a chance to sharpen clinical skills, learn from experienced sports chiropractors and build relationships with colleagues from different countries and sporting environments.

01

Build practical confidence

Move from theory to supervised application through demonstrations, paired practice, problem-solving and instructor feedback.

02

Strengthen athlete-ready care

Practise assessment, manual care, rehabilitation thinking and taping within scenarios relevant to sport and physically active patients.

03

Grow your global network

Learn alongside chiropractors, students and instructors from across the international FICS community.

04

Progress your ICSC

Complete the practicum requirements that apply to your ICSC pathway and move closer to the education standard required for FICS event selection.

CHOOSE YOUR PRACTICUM

Upper. Lower. Or complete both.

Each stream combines approximately 10 hours of prerequisite online theory with 12 hours of face-to-face practical training.

UPPER EXTREMITY ≈22h total learning

Upper Extremity Practicum

Build applied skills around upper-limb sports presentations and the practical decision-making used in sports chiropractic.

  • Shoulder girdle assessment and technique
  • Elbow, wrist, hand and finger applications
  • Soft-tissue and rehabilitation considerations
  • Sports-concussion / head-injury content within the Upper stream
  • Functional taping applications
LOWER EXTREMITY ≈22h total learning

Lower Extremity Practicum

Apply assessment, management and practical reasoning to common lower-limb presentations encountered in sport and active populations.

  • Hip, knee, ankle and foot considerations
  • Lower-extremity assessment and technique
  • Rehabilitation and return-to-sport thinking
  • Soft-tissue applications
  • Functional taping applications

UPPER + LOWER ≈44h total learning

Complete both streams

When Upper and Lower are offered together or planned across separate events, completing both provides the full practical extremity pathway required by the standard ICSC route.

HOW IT WORKS

Prepare online. Spend the seminar practising.

FICS uses a hybrid model so the essential theory is completed before the in-person session and the practicum can stay focused on application.

01

REGISTER

Choose a current seminar

Use the FICS registration hub to select your location and registration category.

02

PREPARE

Complete seminar theory

Work through approximately five two-hour modules in your FICS learner dashboard.

03

PRACTISE

Attend the full practicum

Participate in demonstrations, paired practice, practical activities and assessment.

04

PROGRESS

Save your completion evidence

Keep the seminar certificate with the other evidence required for your ICSC pathway.

ONLINE THEORY

Know the concepts before you arrive

Seminar theory is a prerequisite for practicum attendance. Current guidance uses an 80% quiz pass mark with three attempts. Downloadable transcripts support candidates who want to translate or revisit the English-language video content.

THE PRACTICUM

Hands-on means hands-on.

The face-to-face session is designed around application rather than long classroom presentations. Candidates work in pairs, practise the skills demonstrated by instructors and refine technique through feedback.

Assessment

Clinical examination and practical reasoning for extremity presentations.

Manual care

Chiropractic adjustments / CMT and extremity technique applications.

Soft tissue

Sports-focused soft-tissue approaches and related management considerations.

Rehabilitation

Load, progression and return-to-sport thinking within practical scenarios.

Taping

Rigid, kinesiology and functional taping applications used within sport.

Team learning

Paired practice, instructor interaction and an international peer network.

12 hours of face-to-face practical training per extremity
PRACTICAL LAB

FUNCTIONAL TAPING

Apply the reasoning, not just the tape.

Taping labs place technique inside a wider assessment and management context. Participants practise approaches using rigid, kinesiology and biomechanical taping products while considering the individual athlete, load, movement and clinical objective.

FICS seminar taping activities are supported by industry partners, including Dynamic Tape and KT Tape, which provide product for selected practical labs.

GLOBAL DELIVERY

Learn locally. Connect globally.

FICS works with member councils, regional partners and local hosts to deliver seminars in different parts of the world. Current events, schedules and registration categories are published through the FICS shop.

Africa Asia Europe Pacific Americas Latin America

Event-specific schedules

Daily start/finish times and any linked symposium access vary by host. Always use the individual registration page for your confirmed timetable.

Registration categories

Current events commonly publish member, non-member, final-year student and recent-graduate rates. Eligibility and proof requirements are stated on each event page.

CE / CPD recognition

Seminar learning hours can support professional-development requirements. Recognition varies by jurisdiction and is advertised where formal credit arrangements apply.

LEARN WITH EXPERIENCE

International instructors. Practical feedback.

The ICSC instructor pool brings together sports chiropractors with teaching experience and exposure to international sporting environments. The aim is consistent, evidence-informed practical education across the different regions where FICS delivers seminars.

For seminars of approximately 20–30 participants, FICS currently plans around two instructors — approximately a 1:12 instructor-to-participant ratio — subject to venue and logistical considerations. Instructors-in-training may also join the teaching team under supervision, which can further reduce the participant-to-instructor ratio while supporting instructor development.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What candidates usually want to know

Where do I register?
Seminars currently open for registration are published in the FICS shop and registration hub. If an expected event is not listed yet, contact admin@fics.sport.
Do I need to attend in person?
Yes. The practicum is the face-to-face component. Candidates must attend and participate in all scheduled practical activities and assessments required for seminar completion. Plan to arrive early and allow enough time before the official start so you do not miss any part of the session.
How much online theory is required?
Each extremity stream uses approximately 10 hours of seminar theory, generally structured into five modules of roughly two hours each. The theory is completed before the face-to-face practicum.
What is the theory quiz standard?
Current seminar guidance uses an 80% minimum pass mark with three attempts. Candidates who are unsuccessful after the third attempt should contact FICS for review, feedback and support before another attempt is unlocked.
How long is the practicum?
Upper and Lower Extremity each contain 12 hours of face-to-face practical training. Completing both streams provides 24 hours of practicum. Exact daily timetables vary by event, with regular breaks built into the seminar day according to the host schedule.
What should I wear?
Wear athletic or loose, comfortable clothing that allows access to the shoulder, arm, thigh and lower leg as relevant. This allows both you and your practice partner to participate fully.
Can I attend without completing the full ICSC?
Yes. The hands-on seminars can also be attended for professional development without completing the full ICSC. Current event pages publish the applicable member, non-member and other registration categories. If you are uncertain which category applies, contact FICS before registering.
Are student and recent-graduate rates available?
Current seminar listings commonly include discounted categories for eligible final-year chiropractic students and recent graduates. Current event listings typically define a recent graduate as someone within 12 months of graduation. The individual event page states the eligibility window and evidence required.
How are seminar fees and CE/CPD handled?
Pricing is event-specific and may be set with the host NCSC or partnering organisation. FICS works with hosts to keep seminars accessible across different economic and currency conditions. Registrations are processed in Swiss Francs (CHF). Formal CE/CPD recognition depends on the jurisdiction and host arrangement; any approved credit information is advertised on the relevant event page.
