Originally from Canada, Dr. Thomas S. Halyk is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Chiropractic Department (Centre for Complementary and Alternative Medicine) at International Medical University Malaysia (since Feb. 2022). Prior to teaching, Dr. Halyk had a successful sports chiropractic practice in The Hague, Netherlands, where he worked with numerous professional, semi-professional, top amateur, and other Olympic-caliber/national champion athletes and teams.

Over the years, he has travelled to seven countries and spent more than 900 hours in the field treating top Dutch and international athletes in a wide variety of sports at both national and international events. He was also voted Dutch Chiropractic Federation Chiropractor of the Year in 2019. Dr. Halyk earned a Bachelor of Arts degree (English major – 1994), as well as a Broadcast Communications diploma (Journalism major – 1996), before beginning his chiropractic studies at Southern California University of Health Sciences – Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in 2004. During his time at SCU, he served as President of the Associated Student Body, as well as other executive positions with various groups and organizations on campus.

Dr. Halyk graduated with his Doctor of Chiropractic degree (Summa Cum Laude) in 2007, was the Salutatorian of his class (2nd highest GPA), and won the Student Service Award to go along with the nine academic scholarships he was awarded during the course of his studies. He successfully passed all 4 board examinations of the American National Board of Chiropractic Examiners, all 3 board examinations of the Canadian Chiropractic Examining Board, is certified in physical therapeutics/rehabilitation, and is still licenced as a chiropractor in the State of California.

Since graduating, Dr. Halyk has earned recognition as a Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians (DACBSP), as well as the following certifications: International Certificate in Sports Chiropractic (ICSC), Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP), Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (EMT-B), Graston Technique, and Kinesio Taping Practitioner (CKTP). Additionally, he has earned his 1st Dan black belt in Tae Kwon Do, he is a certified ski instructor (Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance), and since leaving Canada, he has lived in Taiwan, South Korea, the United States, the Netherlands, and now Malaysia.
