Summary

My name is Dr. María E. Dueño Berríos, Doctor of Chiropractic with over two decades of experience in chiropractic care, rehabilitation, and sports medicine. Throughout my career, I have combined clinical expertise, academic instruction, and community engagement to promote evidence-based care and optimal performance for patients and athletes alike.

My primary areas of expertise include chiropractic care, pain management, rehabilitation, and clinical nutrition. I am certified as a Chiropractic Sports Physician and hold an International Certificate in Sports Chiropractic (ICSC). I also completed a Master of Science in Human Nutrition at the University of Bridgeport, further enhancing my integrative approach to musculoskeletal health and athlete wellness.

As an Assistant Professor at Universidad Central del Caribe, I teach courses in clinical nutrition and pain management, emphasizing a systems-based approach to care. I have extensive experience supervising chiropractic students in clinical settings and leading outreach events across Puerto Rico. My work includes mentoring, curriculum delivery, student performance evaluation, and interprofessional collaboration. Additionally, I have served as a peer reviewer for the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine Education (JCME) and participated in the NBCE Item Writing Workshop for the Part IV Pilot Study, reflecting my dedication to advancing chiropractic education standards.

My motivation to join the FICS Instructor Team represents a meaningful opportunity to contribute to global excellence in sports chiropractic education. I am passionate about mentoring future professionals and sharing practical insights from clinical and athletic fieldwork. FICS’ mission aligns closely with my professional values of promoting evidence-informed, athlete-centered care worldwide.

My Experience Working with Athletes and International Games has seen me provide chiropractic care for elite athletes at several international events, including the Caribbean and Central American Games, 2010 and 2014 editions. I also participated in the 2016 U.S. Olympic Training in Chula Vista, California, where I collaborated with multidisciplinary teams to optimize athletic performance and recovery. My clinical experience includes serving professional baseball players and other high-performance athletes in Puerto Rico.
