Role of Fascia in Musculoskeletal Disorders – Podium Presentation
This podium presentation will provide foundational knowledge before the hands-on workshops. It will review the anatomy, explore the concepts of the sliding system, and explain the clinical assessment.
The presentation will highlight the gross anatomy and histology of deep fascia (e.g., innervation, mechanical behaviour), including the significance of myofascial/myotendinous expansions and their role in proprioception. We will cover the pathophysiology of fascia, elaborating on the concept of the myofascial sliding system and its contribution to myofascial pain syndrome. Finishing with the process and rationale of clinical assessment of the deep fascia tissue as well as the therapeutic advantage provided by plasticity and malleability of fascia.
