FICS

International Mentoring Program

The Student Commission leads the FICS Mentoring Program, enabling seasoned sports chiropractors to impart their vast knowledge and experience to chiropractic students and any dedicated chiropractors seeking advice.

Connecting with practicing doctors and navigating the complex landscape of sports chiropractic are significant hurdles for students. Encountering questions regarding licensing, laws, and practice in unfamiliar countries, as well as how to gain valuable experience working with athletes, can be daunting. However, having a mentor who has already traversed these paths provides invaluable guidance. This support helps students and new professionals overcome challenges and establish global networks, opening doors to opportunities they might not have found on their own.

Introduction

Mentoring Shaping Your Future Networks

“ The mentoring program was an amazing experience which allowed me to expand my knowledge of Sports Chiropractic, build my network and support me through my final year of University. This support is priceless and is an incredible opportunity that any Chiropractic student should take up! “

– Dr. Samuel Tiley

Let’s Get You Started

The FICS Mentoring Program provides sports chiropractors to share their professional knowledge and experience with students, recent graduates and other aspiring sports chiropractors. Mentoring has been identified as an important learning and development strategy for expanding networks and experience. FICS advocates for mentoring at all stages of sports chiropractic education and throughout each sports chiropractor’s career. Research has shown that having a mentor supports the achievement of personal and professional goals and improves motivation, engagement and work performance.

Once a month, for 6 months, this mentoring program is virtual sessions via video call or in person depending on the location of your mentor.

  • 5 years experience working as a practising chiropractor
  • Completed or completing ICSC

Mentoring is a great way to support the learning and career development that occurs outside of the classroom. Mentoring is complementary to the supervision that occurs when student chiropractors/recent graduates work or intern in a clinic, practice or field-side with athletes at sports events. Mentoring is a very rewarding process in which the mentor is given the opportunity to pass on their knowledge and passion for the profession. Mentors also get to expand their network of contacts and tap into fresh new ideas and industry trends. Mentoring is a valuable two-way learning experience that benefits both the mentor and mentee.
