FICS at the African Chiropractic Federation Conference 2026
Beyond the educational sessions, the event allowed for meaningful discussions regarding sports chiropractic development within Africa and increased awareness of FICS, its educational pathways, and opportunities for involvement within the organisation. The opportunity to speak at these events provides a valuable platform to promote sports chiropractic, share current evidence-informed approaches to athlete management, and strengthen relationships between FICS and the wider African chiropractic community.

Are you games ready? Interview with Dr Carlos Tavares
How does working at a Games environment differ from everyday clinical practice? Working in Games is working under pressure. It's learning on steroids. In one week, we may deal with situations that take us years of clinical experience. It's having to deal with complex situations with little time and limited equipment resources (mostly our precious and skillful hands). We must develop our clinical judgment and technical skills. In a short time, we can deal with completely different bodies as well as diverse mentalities toward injury.
In a competition by categories and ages, we can quickly go from young adults to middle-aged adults and even older adults and quickly return to young athletes. We can see men and women of different weights and body types, with totally different genetic and psychosocial characteristics, depending on where they are on the globe. It's fast-tracked learning full of rewards.
Dr Carlos Tavares
" We only truly learn through experience and trial and error. For someone inexperienced, being at the games is a unique opportunity to work intensively under the supervision and mentoring of another chiropractor who is more experienced and knowledgeable about the sport and sport’s chiropractic ."

2025 CSIT WORLD SPORTS GAMES
The 2025 CSIT World Sports Games in Loutraki, Greece, was more than just a sporting event, it was a celebration of global collaboration, shared purpose, and the collective strength of a unified team. Throughout the week, our international team delivered evidence-informed care in fast-paced and sometimes unpredictable environments. This experience reminded me not only of the power of sports chiropractic, but also of what’s possible when passionate people come together in service. It reaffirmed my commitment to building something sustainable, grounded in teamwork, trust, and a shared vision for the future of FICS.
Leadership Rooted in Service and Shared Purpose
We encountered logistical and clinical challenges throughout the week, but we met them together, with professionalism, adaptability, and mutual support. Our team represented 13 countries, each volunteer contributing their own unique strengths, cultural perspectives, and commitment to patient-centered care. Dr Scott Mooring
"Whether they were seasoned veterans or first-time international volunteers, our team showed what it means to serve with both expertise and purpose."

The Real success behind the Big Picture
“Every Athlete Deserves Access to Sports Chiropractic” is a great mantra that every FICS member needs to live by! FICS has spent the past 40 years nurturing, developing and cementing relationships with International Sporting Federations and their athletes across the globe in order to bring this mantra to life but, do we all get the ”big picture”?
FICS’ focus has been on trying to create and develop relationships with as many International Sporting Federations as possible over the past 15 years, which we have been largely successful in achieving. Unfortunately, by focusing on quantity, we have perhaps been guilty of not being able to offer quality support. In the years leading up to the pandemic, we found ourselves with a highly impressive annual events calendar and a poor coverage rate for these events.

SEPTEMBER 2022 HOME AGAIN - TWG22 reflections
I am really very happy and grateful to have been able to participate at TWG22 as part of the FICS team and be there for all these athletes from all over the world in all these sports. It is a pleasure for a sports chiropractor to participate in such an event and to see that all these athletes are very happy that we are there for them and provide them with care. They come with a big smile to say thank you before, during or after the competition. Looking forward to participating in future events. ✨️ Dr Aourégan Logé, France
I am very pleased to have worked at TWG22. It was a very well organised and planned out event and I am very honoured that I could be part of it. One could really see the spirit of essential things in life to “ serve and help others" 👍Dr Rainer Wiser, UK
I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to make great friends and work at the TWG22. Hopefully I’ll be seeing many of my new friends and colleagues in the years to come at future FICS events. 😃 Dr Brian Henslin, USA
Thank you for gifting me this opportunity to work at this once-in-a-lifetime event - I hope to cross paths with everyone at future events in the future. If you’re ever in London, look me up 👊🙏 You’ll never believe this - my local pub in East London accepts the Embassy Suites drinks vouchers! Dr Chris Wood, UK
Waiting at the airport on my way home from TWG22 seems like a great place to reflect on the times shared and memories made. I am so very grateful for this fine work we share as we are helping athletes achieve. We get to use our hands and minds to connect with our athletes. What a special thing! The long days, the heat, the laughs, the treatments, the smiles and the challenges....we did it! TOGETHER 💙 🙏🏽 ✨️😁 Dr Jon Wilhelm, USA

June 2021 A student's journey
My name is James West, and I am a student at London South Bank University. This year, I had the amazing opportunity to attend the FICS Annual Symposium as a student member. Having been involved in sports throughout my life, sports chiropractic has always been an area I have been interested in and want to make the focus of my career. FICS has allowed me to begin my journey towards this by allowing me to create the London South Bank University FICS student club and, most recently, through their symposium.

The power of your story can inspire others
To introduce myself, I’m an Irish Sports Chiropractor practising since 2009 living and working in London. My story is to give you an insight into my sports Chiropractic experience during 2020 whilst I was working with EF Pro Cycling Team in Europe, in a year which all of us will certainly remember. Sports and exercise have always been a passion of mine, from triathlons to completing 15 marathons and countless half marathons. So, when studying at the A.E.C.C in Bournemouth, I knew I wanted to be a Sports Chiropractor. In the December 2020 E-News, Dr James Power outlines his 2020 journey from working with athletes, lockdown and family battles.
