Federation of International Sports Chiropractic (FICS) in partnership with Logan University is pleased to offer FICS members who have completed or are near completion, of their International Certificate in Sports Chiropractic (ICSC), an opportunity to receive a full scholarship to one of Logan University’s online master’s degree programs.

Scholarship applications will be accepted on August 15, 2022 and annually thereafter.  Please read the following criteria carefully and have your application ready for submission.

MS-Nutrition and Human Performance

The increased interest in healthy lifestyles and wellness has heightened the demand for skilled nutrition professionals. Logan University’s Master of Science Degree in Nutrition and Human Performance prepares students to address challenges through comprehensive diet and health analysis and evidence-based nutritional and lifestyle recommendations. Graduates gain advanced knowledge of nutrition and human performance through the holistic integration of metabolic processes, health promotion and wellness, as well as a solid foundation of research methodologies used in nutrition.

The admissions requirements are as follows:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Or Master’s/Doctorate) from an accredited institution
  • 2.5 Cumulative GPA in the completed qualifying degree
  • 6 semester credit hours of biological sciences

ABOUT: MS-Sports Science and Rehabilitation

MS-Sports Science and Rehabilitation

Logan University’s Master of Science Degree in Sports Science and Rehabilitation (MS-SSR) is a unique degree option that provides graduates with advanced training to treat sports injuries and succeed in performance management. Students obtain this degree in an online format with a hands-on clinical internship to learn how to evaluate, treat and rehabilitate acute and chronic pain and maximize human performance. Graduates are academically prepared to test for multiple outside certifications including:

  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists (CSCS)
  • NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer (NSCA-CPT)
  • Tactical Strength and Conditioning-Facilitators (TSAC-F)
  • Certified Special Population Specialist (CSPS)
  • ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist
  • Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP)
  • Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians (DACBSP)

General Information

FICS & our University Partner is offering one candidate a fully paid online SCHOLARSHIP to complete the degree of their choice.

This scholarship aims to provide a FICS member who has completed their International Certificate in Sports Chiropractic (ICSC) the opportunity to receive full-tuition assistance towards acquiring a Master's.

“The scholarship requires a commitment from you of approximately 9 hours each week”.

  • Although you can complete your studies in your own time, you must complete each subject within the deadlines outlined by the University.
  • While enrolled, the FICS Scholarship recipient must maintain the University’s requirements and complete the program within the normal program length.
  • The Scholarship will cover the full cost of tuition for the master’s degree (valued covered $22,200 USD) and covered fees as long as the student maintains a full-time enrolment status in the program and complies with all other terms of the CEI.
  • Academic advising, tutoring services, and required books are not covered by the scholarship.

The Logan Scholarship is 9 semester credit hours

Scholarship Eligibility - Key Criteria

The FICS selection committee is made up of individuals from the sports and higher education community. The committee members review the scholarship candidates' applications and then meet to discuss the applicant's qualifications. The committee members will determine which applicants will advance to the interview stage of the selection process. The committee will then announce the winner.

Every effort is made to ensure the selection process reflects an approach that advocates for maximum student support and equality.

The FICS administrator will work with the University Admissions Department to ensure the scholarship awardee is enrolled in the Master’s program of their choice.

The key criteria for this scholarship application are:

  • Doctor of Chiropractic
  • FICS members in good standing registered with their local National Chiropractic Sports Council. An individual member with FICS is considered if the person comes from a region without an NCSC.  https://fics.sport/membership-ncsc/
  • Level of volunteering at FICS activities or working as a volunteer on your local NCSC and or FICS commission.
  • Candidates must hold an International Certificate in Sports Chiropractic (ICSC)
  • Candidates who will complete their ICSC program before the starting date of their Masters’ program are eligible to apply for the scholarship
  • The FICS Scholarship is awarded to one individual annually
  • Meets any specific requirements of the FICS partnering organization.
Scholarship Timeline

TimeLine of Process:

15 August through to 30 September       
Call for scholarship applications.  The FICS administrator will send out a call for interest via social media and to ICSC candidates. Applications will close on September 30. Late applications will not be considered.

30 September through  15 October        
The selection committee will start the review process and create a short list of candidates who will be invited for an interview.

1 November through 15 November 
The selection committee will meet to interview candidates and announce the winner.
A letter of an offer will be sent to the successful candidate and the University's Director of Admission to start the enrolment process.

January 15th

What do I need to apply for the Scholarship? 

  • Complete the FICS Scholarship Application. Download here 
  • Read all the information carefully so you know what you need and the correct format to submit your document in. All documents MUST be submitted together in ONE email.
    • Provide a copy of your academic chiropractic transcript. (Note: You need to meet all University admissions/entrance requirements, including the minimum GPA requirement of the applicable bachelor's degree).
    • Provide a copy of your professional curriculum vitae (CV)
    • Write an essay explaining why you wish to be considered for the FICS scholarship and how it will benefit you and the sports chiropractic community.
    • Gather two letters of recommendation from any professional in the field in support of the application.

You are encouraged to read the "Scoring Candidates Rubric" which provides more information about how to prepare your CV, Essay and letters of recommendation. 

Please Note: Transcripts from courses completed outside of the US will require NACES Accredited International transcript evaluation for US equivalency. You will have time to apply for the NACES evaluation if you successfully receive the scholarship. Any costs associated with this evaluation are the candidate’s responsibility

    Scoring Candidates Rubric

    ELIGIBILITY: At the time of Submission:

    The FICS administrator will check the candidate's academic transcripts to ensure it meets the entrance point grade average set by the University, and that the candidate holds an ICSC membership in good standing.

    1. The applicant has completed their Doctorate in Chiropractic and achieved the GPA entrance.
    2. The applicant is a member of FICS in good standing
    3. The applicant has completed their ICSC

    3 points awarded – Working as a FICS volunteer, ICSC instructor or part of their NCSC as a volunteer
    3 points awarded - Evidence provided that you have volunteered at games for FICS or NCSC

    Below is a guide to the grading of the scholarship applications.
    FICS will engage a panel of judges from across the international community to select the winners of this prestigious scholarship. The following rubric outlines the selection process. The judging panel uses this to assist in providing the selection committee with a consistent model with a minimum personal value bias. When the panel meets to discuss the applications and select the scholarship awardee, the grading scores will be used as the base, however, the scholarship may not necessarily be awarded to the highest scoring candidate.     Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Resume
    The CV (or Resume) is an important part of many scholarship applications. The CV can offer additional details about applicants' experience and accomplishments, clarify timelines, and provide contextual information.  Typically, the student's application and personal essays are congruent with the activities listed in the CV/Resume.  In that case, significant activities or experiences listed in the CV will also be discussed in the application and/or personal essays.  Conversely, activities discussed in the application and essays should typically be listed on the CV. The following are activities that frequently appear on the CVs of scholarship applicants:

    1. Education
    2. Volunteer experience or community activities
    3. Leadership activities
    4. Research experience
    5. Work or internship experience
    6. Honors, awards, and special recognition

    Evaluating Academic Transcripts
    When evaluating a student's transcript, consider the following. This scholarship requires a program GPA of 3.0.

    1. Trajectory of the GPA. What is the pattern (i.e., increasing, consistent)?
    2. Challenging course content.
    3. Number of credits taken within the graded period in addition to grades earned.
    4. Grades in the major discipline(s).

    *Note if there were challenging periods – freshman year, quarter(s) where grades are inconsistent with the overall history of the transcript.

    Essay
    In your essay, you are asked to explain why you wish to be considered for the FICS scholarship and how you intend to benefit from the master's program you have been chosen for.  The Judges are looking for a personal statement essay that typically answers the question posed in the application process.

    • Make a connection between the mission of the scholarship (the activity or interest the scholarship seeks to support) and your academic, career, personal interests and/or goals.
    • Articulate how you plan to achieve those interests/goals and how the scholarship/activity will fit into that plan.
    • The essay should be easy to read, reveal interesting things about yourself, and help the judges understand where you are coming from.

    Letters of Recommendation
    Letters of recommendation could come from any source: faculty, professional community members, supervisors, etc. The Judges are looking for recommendation letters which include:

    • Observations regarding the applicant and their academic ability.
    • Writer's observations and involvement with the applicant.
    • Examples of how the applicant has been an active member in their NCSC or community working as a sports chiropractic volunteer.
    • Applicants' investment in Sports Chiropractic.
    • Applicant's passion for working with athletes and furthering their career in Sports chiropractics.

       

      Finding an NACES Evaluation Agency

      If your transcript is outside of the U.S. you must use NACES Accredited International transcript evaluator for U.S. equivalency. This evaluation is applied for at the time you are awarded a scholarship. It does not need to be done to submit your application to FICS.

      Many of the below have a fast-track process which you may consider.

      NACES does not perform credential evaluations. However, our members do and can assist you with all your needs pertaining to evaluation services. They can answer all questions related to your specific situation and process. All our members are in good standing and should be contacted directly for assistance. They are located across the US and work with clients electronically from around the world. Therefore, there is no need to be in geographic proximity to an agency.
