Course Objectives:
The purpose of this course is to provide doctors of chiropractic with training in the evaluation, treatment and management of spine injuries in sports. Common spinal conditions seen in sport will be discussed along with the pathoanatomy, biomechanics, epidemiology, acute management and chronic management of these conditions.
Upon completion of this course, learners should be able to:
- Demonstrate an advanced understanding of the pathoanatomy and biomechanics of common sports-related spine injuries, including cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions.
- Critically evaluate the epidemiology and mechanisms of spine injuries in sports, identifying risk factors and patterns within athletic populations.
- Synthesize knowledge of acute and chronic spine injury foundations to perform accurate differential diagnoses in sports-related cases.
- Engage with and critically analyse current research and protocols to apply evidence-based practices in the treatment of sports-related spine injuries.
- Utilise case studies to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical application, demonstrating the ability to interpret and manage complex clinical situations involving spine injuries.
