Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy for the athlete – How new technology can improve injury care and return to play

Description: Expand your treatment options with ESWT. If we understand the technology, we can use it optimally and efficiently for our athletes and patients. What is evident in the scientific literature and where might we see ESWT in the future. Thinking outside the box helps us to move ESWT forward.  This session will provide an overview of new applications.

Objectives: The learner will gain an understanding of:

1. what shock wave is; definition and technical description of extracorporeal shock waves
2. the evident: mechanism of action and basic studies
3. how and where to use ESWT? Approved standard indications, an overview of „off-lable” indications, our experience and best practice

Instructor: Dr. Anders Broegaard is former board member of the Danish Chiropractic Association and current President of the Danish Clinical Society for ESWT. Dr. Anders Broegaard has gained extensive experience in treating musculoskeletal injuries over the last 29 years and has worked as a consultant and part of the medical team for top national football, athletic and handball teams in Denmark and Europe.

Anders is a sought-after lecturer both nationally and internationally and has over the years held more than 80 seminars, courses, presentations and workshops at interdisciplinary conferences where doctors, physiotherapists and chiropractors have participated with a focus on diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of neck, back and sports injuries.

Anders is owner and senior manager of a multidisciplinary clinic in Copenhagen specialising in musculoskeletal diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of acute and chronic injuries, and has for the last 20 years worked with focused shockwave therapy.
