Lower Extremity Injuries in Sport
The purpose of this course is to provide doctors of chiropractic with training in the evaluation, treatment and management of lower extremity injuries in sports. Common lower extremity conditions seen in sport will be discussed along with the pathoanatomy, biomechanics, epidemiology, acute management and chronic management of these conditions.
Course Objectives:
Hip Module
- Review key anatomical features of the hip
- Explore pathologies of the hip of relevance in sports-related injuries
- Attain assessment skill of the hip
- Master Orthopedic testing of injures of the hip
- Development of treatment plans in the acute, subacute and chronic phases of hip injuries
- Return to sports strategies post hip injury
Knee Module
- Anatomical features of the knee subjected to injury
- Mechanism of injury for pertinent structures
- Evaluation protocols for injury to the knee
- Injury assessment skills
- Functional mechanisms in injury
- Physiotherapy protocols in injuries to the knee
- Return to sport plan post knee injury
Ankle Module
- Anatomical features of the ankle subjected to injury
- Mechanisms of injury commonly seen in ankle injuries
- Injury assessment of the ankle
- Protocols in the evaluation of the ankle
- Care of the ankle in the acute, subacute and chronic phases of care
- Return to sport plan post ankle injury
